Worthy of Worship

“Oh come, let us sing to the Lord; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation! Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise! For the Lord is a great God, and a great King above all gods. In his hand are the depths of the earth; the heights of the mountains are his also. The sea is his, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land. Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker! For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand.” (Psalm 95:1-7a)
This Psalm of praise offers us a beautiful reminder of the sheer magnitude of the greatness of God. He is the Creator of the universe; the Maker of all creatures great and small; He holds the heavens and the earth in the palm of His hands! Verses like this one stir something in our hearts. Perhaps they invoke some feelings of comfort in their familiarity. (How many of you sang Psalm 95 as you read it?) These words, inspired by God, remind us that He alone is worthy of all praise, honor, glory, and adoration. Simply put, our God is worthy of worship!
Are you making enough space for worship? Do you begin each new day with a spirit of worship, a heart full of thanksgiving, and an attitude of praise? I’m feeling a bit convicted now. In my heart, I know that God is worthy of all my worship and thanksgiving and praise. But, am I living out that truth in my daily and weekly rhythms? If you’re like me, the answer is “sometimes”.
You see, sometimes I let other things get between me and God. Sometimes, my calendar gets so full that I miss out on the opportunity to worship God in the way that I know I should. Sometimes, I make an idol out of busyness. Friends, that’s sinning. When I allow the things of this world, even good things, to lead me away from worshiping the one true God, I’ve failed to keep the first commandment. I’ve failed to fear, love, and trust in God above all things.
Thankfully, Jesus died for sinners like me. Because He lives, I can start each new day with a clean slate. Because He lives, I can approach God boldly in prayer, asking Him to forgive my selfish busyness, and for the tenacity to help me live a life of worship.
“Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker!”

I pray that the Holy Spirit would open your hearts and eyes to see the opportunities that exist in your life right now to bring praise and glory to God, right where you are. He is worthy of our worship, today and everyday!
